History of the Women's Mission Ministry

The history of our church is rich with accounts of activities, projects and programs sponsored by the women of the church. Anyone who is familiar with the history of the Christian Church can appreciate the involvement of women from its early development to the present.

In the beginning it was called the Mission Society. Later the Women’s Council and today the Women’s Mission Ministry. In 1978 the QBC adopted the Cell Plan to unite all women into a fellowship where each woman could grow in a personal devotion with Jesus Christ, as Loard and Savior. The women would be committed to the mission of the church through working and witnessing together.

As the church is made up of many parts, so is the Mission Ministry. It takes all parts of the church and mission ministry to make mission effects successful. The cells are only braches of the tree trunk, that of women’s ministry.

Some of the Women’s Mission Ministry projects include:

  • Visiting and giving to the sick and shut-in
  • Easter Baskets
  • Thanksgiving Baskets
  • World Day Prayer
  • Rice Project
  • Bible Project
  • Back to School Supplies
  • Baptist Children Home
  • Visiting and giving gifts to Nursing Home at Christmas
  • Week of Prayer
  • The Great Program
  • Pre Women’s Day Programs

The Women’s Mission Ministry is affiliated with Tuckahoe Association, Baptist General Convention, American Baptist Churches of the South, Lott Carey, and the National Baptist Convention. The women are encouraged to take time and attend the Women’s Day of Baptist General Convention. The Baptist General Convention Women’s Division has nine Districts. QBC is in Area I District. And, within the American Baptist Churches of the South, QBC is in Area II. Some of the church’s women have held office in the various organizations.

The Women’s Mission Ministry has had outstanding leadership down through the years. The church is grateful, for they have left us a rich legacy to build upon. Our mission not only has a boble history, we have a blessed future.
